Aisha Jawando and Jammy Kasongo will lead the cast of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical as the hit show enters its third year at the Aldwych Theatre.
After originally playing Tina’s sister Alline Bullock and playing Tina at certain performances, Jawando (Motown The Musical, Shaftesbury Theatre, The Book of Mormon, Prince of Wales Theatre) took on the title role full-time in October last year.
Another member of the original company, Kasongo (Grand Hotel, Southwark Playhouse, Hair, The Vaults), will step into the role of Ike Turner after previously playing Richard Bullock and Raymond Hill. The production which is now booking through to 23 January 2021 will also welcome US former pop star Chanel Hayes who will make her London stage debut as the alternate Tina.
From 17 March 2020 the cast at the Aldwych will include Joe Evans as Phil Spector and Terry Britten, Irene-Myrtle Forrester as GG, Francesca Jackson as Rhonda Graam, Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky as Alline Bullock, Matt Mills as Richard Bullock, Posi Morakinyo as Raymond Hill, Joseph Richardson as Erwin Bach, Garman Rhys as Roger Davies and Lucy Vardi as Zelma.
They are joined by ensemble members Lori Barker and Daniella Bowen, Chris Grahamson, Paul Mukembo, Alex Okoampa, Samara Casteallo, Mia Musak and Anu Ogunmefun with swings Derek Aidoo, Joshua Da Costa, Livvy Evans, Raquel Jones, DeeArna McLean, Saran Webb, Samuel J Weir and Michael Woolston-Thomas.
Children’s cast members are: Love-Joy Bacelar, 10 years old from Islington; Perola Da Cunha, 11 years old from Hackney; and Tia Murrell, 11 years old from Surrey, who share the role of Young Anna Mae. Eden Anthony, 11 years old from Islington; Aurelia Hunt, eight years old from Havering; and Naniyah Owusu, 10 years old from Redbridge share the role of Young Alline; and Romell Barrocks-Bedeau, 10 years old from Lambeth; Iesa Miller, nine years old from Redbridge; and Rojae Simpson, nine years old from Tower Hamlets who share the role of Young Craig.
Written by award-winning writer Katori Hall (The Mountaintop) with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the show’s creative team includes choreographer Anthony van Laast; set and costume designer Mark Thompson; musical supervisor Nicholas Skilbeck; lighting designer Bruno Poet; sound designer by Nevin Steinberg, projection designer Jeff Sugg and orchestrator Ethan Popp.
