Alistair Brammer to play Fiyero in the West End production of Wicked

Miss Saigon star Alistair Brammer will take over the role of Fiyero in the hit Apollo Victoria Theatre production of West End and Broadway smash Wicked in July 2019.

Brammer, who made his Broadway debut in 2017 as Chris in Cameron Mackintosh’s record-breaking revival of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Miss Saigon, will step into the role from Monday 22 July following the departure of the current Fiyero, former EastEnder David Witts who will give his last performance in the role on Saturday 20 July.

Announcing the casting of Brammer, Michael McCabe, executive producer (UK) of Wicked, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alistair Brammer back to the West End following his great success on Broadway as Chris in Miss Saigon and we very much look forward to him joining the new cast of Wicked which will lead us into our fourteenth year in the West End.”

After making his professional West End debut in as Marius in Les Misérables in 2009, Brammer appeared in War Horse, directed by Marianne Elliot and Tom Morris. He first played Chris in the award-winning London revival of Miss Saigon and in October 2010, first played Jean Prouvaire in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Misérables at The O2. In September 2014, Brammer first took on the role of Chris in the 25th Anniversary Gala performance of Miss Saigon at London’s Prince Edward Theatre. On screen he has featured in 18 episodes of Casualty (BBC) and played Jean Prouvaire again in the film version of Les Misérables. He can soon be seen on the big screen again in Medieval with Ben Foster and Michael Caine.

The multi-award-winning tale of the witches of Oz has won over 100 major international awards including three Tonys, two Oliviers and ten WhatsOnStage awards.

Based on the best-seller by Gregory Maguire which took its inspiration from the creations of L. Frank Baum brought so vividly to life in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy award winner Stephen Schwartz (Disney’s Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

Adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman (cult US TV series My So-Called Life), the show features musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento and the production is directed by double Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello. Music arrangements are by Tony Award-winners Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton) and Stephen Oremus (Disney’s Frozen).
