Multi award-winning director and choreographer Arlene Phillips is launching a search for ten child stars ahead of the UK premiere of Andrew Lippa’s musical A Little Princess.
Open auditions will be held in London on Sunday (25 March) to find young actresses to appear in the semi-staged concert performance of the show at the Southbank Centre on Bank Holiday Monday 28 May.
Announcing the casting call, Phillips, who will direct the one-off performance of the show which is based on Francis Hodgson Burnett’s much-loved novel, said: “I am thrilled to be part of the biggest casting search for a child star since my worldwide search for the film of Annie.
“I am searching for ten young stars for the UK premiere of A Little Princess the musical. This will be a huge and exciting casting search for the title role of Sara Crewe and friends who will lead this production.
“The book had deep meaning for me as a child but I realise it is more relevant than ever as it touches on themes of love, loss, bullying, friendship, poverty and hope.”
On Sunday the production team with Keston & Keston Children’s Casting Directors will audition young girls aged between six and 14. All must be no taller than 5ft 2 inches and must be commutable to London (within one-hour travel time) for rehearsals from the week commencing 23 April and the performance on 28 May.
All hopefuls should be pre-registered with Keston & Keston via the Keston Casting app or the website www.kestonandkestoncasting.com.
The children who fit the production requirements will be sent an invitation to attend Sunday’s auditions containing full information, preparation material and the location for the auditions. Children must present this email to be allowed into the building.
Written by Tony-nominated composer Lippa (The Addams Family) who will fly in from the US to conduct the concert performance, the musical A Little Princess premiered in California in 2004. The London performance will also feature abridged narration by Brian Crawley, the writer of the book and the show’s lyricist.
