Choreographer Arlene Phillips is the latest big name to be lined up to join the West End and Broadway favourites aboard the UK’s first specialist musical theatre festival at sea.
Following on from last year’s announcement that lyricist Don Black and award winning musical theatre star Marti Webb would be taking to the seas, Phillips will bring her stage show Arlene – The Glitz, The Glamour, The Gossip on board Floating Festival Stages this October.
Featuring the celebrity choreographer in conversation with host and friend Jacquie Storey, the show which offers a glimpse behind the scenes of Phillips’ lifetime of dance has already proved to be a hit with audiences on dry land.
Commenting on her show, Phillips said: “We’ve taken this show on the road around the UK and now it’s time to take it to the seas. I love an audience – everyone does – and I hope the passengers on Stages will get an insight into the different aspects of my life. It’s glitz, glamour and gossip, and above all else, it will be fun!”
Phillips joins a glittering line-up of talent already involved in the project including double Olivier Award winner Michael Ball, popular musical theatre group Collabro, soul singer turned stage star Beverley Knight (The Bodyguard, Cats); Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera leading man John Owen-Jones; two West End favourites who first found fame on TV talent searches, Lee Mead (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked) and Sophie Evans (The Wizard of Oz, Wicked) and direct from Broadwa,y gifted impressionist Christina Bianco.
Launched from Southampton in October 2017 the four-night Stages on board the Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas will this year depart from Southampton once again from 15 October this year.
Produced by Floating Festivals with assistance from Royal Caribbean, the Stages cruise also features a unique performance of the Olivier Award-winning West End production Showstopper! The Improvised Musical and an In Conversation with Don Black, a mixture of words and music that involves Black talking about his long and hugely successful career while Webb performs some of his greatest hits.
With leading artists and attractions sourced by live music promoters Cuffe and Taylor, the aim of the event is to turn the cruise ship into a full musical theatre themed floating resort.
A mixture of full live shows and performances, the four-day cruise includes a full day ashore in Amsterdam, workshops with the stars and live Q&A events.
