At Last – The Etta James Story, the hit show about the turbulent life and music of one of soul’s most legendary voices, will make its UK debut next month.
Featuring a portrayal of the troubled star by Vika Bull, half of popular Australian duo Vika and Linda, the show will begin its UK tour at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre on 28 March.
Following its world premiere in Melbourne in 2013, the show has packed theatres across Australia and New Zealand. Last year the show returned to Melbourne for a sell-out season at The Arts Centre before returning to the Sydney Opera House for a third season.
A multi award-winning star, James’ distinctive vocal style has influenced artists as diverse as Diana Ross, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse and Christina Aguilera.
Written by John Livings and starring Bull and the Essential R&B Band, the narrative concert-style staging traces James’ life through performances of her best-loved songs including ‘Tell Mama’, ‘Something’s Got a Hold On Me’, and ‘Sugar On the Floor’, as well as the oft-covered ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and her signature ballad ‘At Last’.
The 12-date tour will include performances in Cardiff, Leamington Spa, Birmingham, Bristol, Tunbridge Wells, Eastleigh, London, Norwich, Manchester, Corby, and Bury St. Edmunds.
