Ten years ago jazz singer Gary Williams dreamed of recording a world-class Christmas album. This year, with your help, he hopes his dream can come true.
The idea for a Big Band Christmas album started years ago when Williams created Big Band Wonderland, a live show for Ronnie Scott’s in London. Though he has recorded lots of albums since then, including three at Abbey Road, this is the one he is most excited about.
New York cabaret star Michael Feinstein and Radio 2’s Clare Teal have agreed to duet with Williams on the album which is set to include more than a dozen Christmas classics like ‘Winter Wonderland’, ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Let It Snow’.
“This is going to be an incredible album,” says Williams, “but the problem is finding the money we need to get it finished. I’ve put in almost half the money myself, but we need more and that’s why we’ve decided to appeal for help. The music is written, the musicians are on hold and the studio’s booked but unless we raise the rest of the money by the end of March it’s not going to happen. It really is make or break time.”
To encourage fans and friends to get involved Williams is offering a range of exciting rewards. Starting at an advanced signed copy of the CD, you can also get to a chance sit in on a recording session, attend a VIP New Year’s concert with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, or even sing with Williams on the album.
