Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s hit production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita will follow its sell-out success earlier this year with a limited run at London’s Barbican Theatre next summer.
Following in the footsteps of this summer’s Barbican Theatre transfer season of the multi-award-winning Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita will play the prestigious East London venue from 27 June until 22 August 2020.
With casting to be announced, director Jamie Lloyd will once again head a creative team that includes: designer Soutra Gilmour, choreographer Fabian Aloise, musical supervisor Alan Williams, lighting designer Jon Clark, sound designer Nick Lidster for Autograph and fight director Kate Waters. Casting is by Will Burton for DGA.
The fastest selling production in the Open Air Theatre’s history, Evita played the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from 2 August until 21 September this year. Director Lloyd’s reinvention of Evita was seen by over 75,000 people and became the venue’s highest-grossing production in its history.
With more than 20 major awards to its credit, and Alan Parker’s Oscar-winning film version starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas, Rice and Lloyd Webber’s Evita features some of the best loved songs in musical theatre, including ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, ‘On This Night of a Thousand Stars’, and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’.
