Bath world premiere for Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Musical

The legendary master of menace Alfred Hitchcock is the subject of a new musical which will receive its world premiere at the Theatre Royal Bath next spring.

Presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions in association with Universal Theatrical Group, Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Musical will begin preview performances in Bath on 22 March 2025 ahead of an opening night on 27 March 2025. The production is due to run up to 12 April 2025.

Tony Award winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Company) will direct the production which features an original score by Tony Award-winner Steven Lutvak (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) and a book by Jay Dyer(Showtime’s Californication).

Taking its inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock Presents, the star-packed classic television series created and hosted by the movie-making genius, the musical features a jazz-infused score and a cast of characters who just can’t help getting into the kind of trouble only a mind like Hitchcock’s could concoct.

Casting and the fuller creative team will be announced

Alfred Hitchcock Presents was an American TV anthology series which ran from 1962 to 1965. Described by Time magazine as one of the 100 Best TV Shows of All Time, the series attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest names with stars like Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Peter Falk appearing on screen, while leading directors behind the camera included Robert Stevens, Paul Henreid, Robert Altman and William Friedkin.

The series featured one of the most famous opening sequences in US TV history, with host Hitchcock initially depicted as a line caricature before the director appeared as a silhouette at the side of the screen, making his way to centre-screen accompanied by the distinctive music of Charles Gounod’s ‘Funeral March of a Marionette’.
