Dear Evan Hansen’s Tony Award-winning star Ben Platt will return to Broadway next month to lead the cast of a revival of the 1998 musical Parade.
Originally seen in a critically acclaimed seven-performance run at New York City Center last autumn, the Michael Arden-directed production will begin preview performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater on 21 February ahead of an opening night on 16 March (performances are currently scheduled until 6 August). Platt and co-star Micaela Diamond will reprise their performances as Leo and Lucille Frank.
The production follows the musical version of the film Almost Famous which closed at the weekend after just 77 performances.
With a book by Driving Miss Daisy writer Alfred Uhry, a score by Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) and co-conceived by Broadway legend Hal Prince, Parade tells the tragic true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn born Jew living in Atlanta who was wrongfully convicted of the brutal murder of a teenage girl and lynched by an anti-Semitic mob. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1998, winning the Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score and six Drama Desk Awards including the award for Outstanding Musical.
The revival of the powerful Tony Award-winning musical is being produced by New York based company Seaview and UK theatre company the Ambassador Theatre Group.
