Nearly 50 shows and acts will be on hand to turn London’s iconic Trafalgar Square into the ultimate open air theatre when West End LIVE makes its eagerly anticipated return next weekend.
After being forced to cancel last year’s event due to the pandemic, the organisers of the crowd-pleasing live entertainment event are promising 2021’s West End LIVE on 18 and 19 September will feature the best line-up in the event’s history.
With the previously unannounced Wicked featuring alongside first time appearances from Hamilton and The Book of Mormon, the programme will also include newer hit West End musicals including Disney’s Frozen, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, Disney’s The Prince of Egypt, Dear Evan Hansen, Back To The Future: The Musical and Pretty Woman: The Musical.
The 16th West End LIVE will also offer exclusive previews of eagerly-awaited new productions including Vanara The Musical, Bring It On The Musical and What’s New Pussycat? along with Charing Cross Theatre’s current production of Pippin, the popular Roles We’ll Never Play concert series and a selection from new musical showcase festival MTFestUK 2021.
Other acts will include returning favourites The Barricade Boys, plus the Children of Eden 3oth Anniversary Concert, Queenz – The Show With Balls!, Mark Read – Stop The Show, Ben Stock’s West End Sing-a-long and Ferris & Milnes.
The line-up of featured shows includes:
& Juliet, Amélie The Musical, The Choir of Man, Come From Away, Dreamgirls UK tour, Doctor Who: Time Fracture, English National Opera, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World, Grease UK tour, The Great Gatsby, Heathers The Musical, Jersey Boys, Les Misérables, Disney’s The Lion King, Magic Goes Wrong, Magic Mike Live, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, Matilda The Musical, The Phantom of the Opera, Rock of Ages UK tour, Six, The Last Five Years and Tina – The Tina Turner Musical.
West End favourite Ruthie Henshall and comedian turned musical theatre star Jason Manford will complete the previously announced roster of Magic Radio presenters, Emma B, Tom Price and Sonali Shah to host the weekend.
Official London Theatre will be backstage throughout the weekend sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content on social media channels.
The event will remains free and unticketed. However, all attendees aged 18 and over will be asked to demonstrate their Covid status to gain entry to the event.
West End LIVE will be BSL interpreted by Sue MacLaine, Marco Nardi and Caroline Richardson.
The largest event of its type in the world, the crowd-pleasing festival is presented by the Society of London Theatre and Westminster City Council. West End LIVE annually turns one of the capital’s famous landmarks into a showcase for the best the West End has to offer. Alongside the performances the event usually offers fun photo opportunities, meet-and-greets, merchandise stalls, refreshments and sing-alongs.
