Pictures: The Umbrella Rooms
Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winner Billy Porter and double Olivier Award-nominee Marisha Wallace will join the cast of the multi award-winning West End production of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in January.
From 28 January 2025, Porter (Kinky Boots/Miss Saigon/Five Guys Named Moe, Broadway) will step into the role of The Emcee with Wallace (Guys & Dolls, Bridge Theatre, Oklahoma!, Young Vic) taking over as Sally Bowles. The pair will remain in the roles until 24 May 2025.
They will join the cast alongside Vivien Parry (Top Hat, Aldwych Theatre, Les Misérables, Queen’s Theatre) who will return as Fraulein Schneider after first appearing in the role in the production in 2022.
The trio will join current cast members Daniel Bowerbank (Machinal, The Old Vic/Theatre Royal Bath, The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Clifford Bradshaw, Fenton Gray (Little Shop of Horrors, Leicester Haymarket, Into the Woods, Manchester Library Theatre) as Herr Schultz, Fred Haig (Rock Follies, Chichester Festival Theatre, Tammy Faye, Almeida Theatre) as Ernst Ludwig, and Jessica Kirton (Cinderella, Gillian Lynne Theatre, School of Rock, Gillian Lynne Theatre) as Fraulein Kost/Fritzie.
The cast is completed by Xenoa Campbell-Ledgister, Sam Darius, Damon Gould Adrian Grove, El Haq Latief, Justin-Lee Jones, Ela Lisondra, Hícaro Nicolai, Andy Rees Alexandra Regan, Marina Tavolieri, Ben Simon Wilson, Anne-Marie Wojna, Patrick Wilden and Lucy Young.
The prologue company is made up of Rachel Benson, Ami Benton, Onyemachi Ejimofor, Joseph Hardy, Liz Kamille, Andrew Linnie, Aine McLoughlin, Jack William Parry, Jazmyn Raikes, Oliver Stockley and Ena Yamaguchi.
Presented by Ambassador Theatre Group and Underbelly, the unique new version of the classic musical began performances at the in-the-round venue in December 2021. The production won a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards – the most for any musical revival in Olivier history – and three prestigious Critics Circle Awards.
Rebecca Frecknall heads a creative team that includes set and costume designer Tom Scutt and choreographer Julia Cheng. Musical supervision is by Jennifer Whyte, with musical direction by Ben Ferguson, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster. The casting director is Stuart Burt, the associate director and prologue director is Jordan Fein, and the prologue composer and musical director is Angus MacRae.
The production which recently celebrated its 1,000th performance is currently booking up to 4 October 2025.
Based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 semi-autobiographical book Goodbye to Berlin and the stage adaptation I Am a Camera by playwright and director John Van Druten, Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
