Craig Berry and Michelle LaFortune reprise their roles when It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman transfer to the Leicester Square Theatre in February 2015
Casting has been revealed for the transfer of All Star Productions’ acclaimed production of It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman. The company presented the UK premiere of the show in March 2014 at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre on the London Fringe, and its success has meant the production will take up residence from 10-21 February 2015 at the Leicester Square Theatre for a limited run of just ten performances.
The cast features: Craig Berry (Superman), Michelle LaFortune (Lois), Paul Harwood (Max), Sarah Kennedy (Sydney), Matthew Ibbotson (Sedgwick), Charlie Vose (Jim), Andrew Truluck (Perry), Jonathan Chan (Father Ling), Thomas Widdop (Fan Po Ling), Christina Harris (Tai Ling), William M Lee (Ding Ling) and Jade Nelson (Ming Foo Ling), with Charlotta Debattista, Vicky Longley and Shiv Rabheru in the ensemble.
Leading the creative team is director Randy Smartnick alongside musical director Aaron Clingham and choreographer Kate McPhee.
It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman (which premiered on Broadway in 1966 and is based on the comic strip Superman) is the tale of Superman’s efforts to defeat the vengeful Dr. Abner Sedgwick, a ten-time Nobel Prize-losing scientist, who seeks to destroy the world’s symbol of good. Superman also comes into romantic conflict with Max Mencken, a columnist for the Daily Planet newspaper who is intent on revealing Superman’s true identity, as he resents Lois Lane’s attraction to Superman.
The score for It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman is by Charles Strouse (Annie) and Lee Adams (Bye Bye Birdie) and the show has a book by David Newman and Robert Benton who would go on to write the screenplays for Bonnie and Clyde and several of the Superman movies.
