Shanay Holmes, Beverley Knight and Jay Perry were among the winners at the 2025 Black British Theatre Awards (BBTAs).
Holmes took home the award for Best Female Lead Actor in a Musical for her performance in Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre, with Knight crowned Best Female Lead Actor in a Play for the musically themed Marie & Rosetta at the Rose Theatre, and Perry won the Best Male Lead Actor in a Musical Award for his performance in Hamilton.
The Best Musical Production was judged to be The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, while Cedric Neal took home the Best Supporting Male Actor in a Musical for Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre and Jade Marvin won Best Supporting Female Actor in a Musical Award for Starlight Express at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
Featuring an all-star line-up of guest presenters, including Vanessa Williams, Matt Henry, Cush Jumbo, Baroness Lola Young, David Blake, Miriam-Teak Lee, Cherrelle Skeete, Miranda Cromwell and Jason Pennycooke, the ceremony was held at London’s Piccadilly Theatre – the West End home to Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Sponsored by ATG Entertainment and presented in partnership with Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Global Creatures and Playful Productions, the seventh edition of the awards which recognise some of the finest work by black performers and creatives in UK Theatre featured performances from Alexandra Burke, Beverley Knight, the Kingdom Choir and the casts of Moulin Rouge! The Musical and The Harder They Come.
