Singer Alexandra Burke has revealed her passion for acting in a new video for the 1000 Londoners project, throwing the spotlight on ‘1000 stories, 1 city’.
In June this year, singer Burke took on her first stage role in the hit musical The Bodyguard, following in the footsteps of her idol Whitney Houston. Burke rose to fame after winning X Factor in 2008 and since then has enjoyed international success, releasing two major studio albums and winning several awards for her music. But there is another passion beyond singing that she has kept hidden for a long time – acting.
A new short documentary follows Burke for a day – as she travels from talk shows to luxury hotels, and eventually takes the stage at the Adelphi Theatre. She is constantly accompanied throughout by a loyal team of managers and stylists in a similar fashion to her character, Rachel Marron, in The Bodyguard.
At the end of that evening’s performance Burke is surprised in her dressing room by the singing legend Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston’s cousin, who congratulates her on her performance. “To have Dionne Warwick’s blessings tonight,” said Burke. “It just doesn’t get any better than that.”
Alexandra, a brand new documentary directed by Daniel Onyia for Chocolate Films, is a chance to see a day in the life of a West End star. The film offers an insight into what motivates her to relentlessly follow her dreams, no matter what the sacrifice.

1000 Londoners is the biggest documentary series ever made about a city. It was launched on 23 April 2014 at Bafta’s Piccadilly venue with the first ten films.
