British Theatre Academy brings In The Heights back to London

The British Theatre Academy will present two special performances of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s award-winning In The Heights later this month, featuring a cast of 35 of the academy’s most accomplished performers.

The rehearsed staging of the Hamilton creator’s first Broadway hit will take place at The Stockwell Playhouse on 27 and 28 October.

Directed by Dean Johnson, the latest production Miranda’s lively hip-hop and Latin-flavoured work will feature Isabella Pappas (Olivier nominated for The Nether, Annie UK tour, Lucy in 13 at the Ambassadors Theatre); Bradley Riches (Disaster! The Musical at Charing Cross Theatre); Lewis Ledlie (13 at the Ambassadors Theatre); and Billy Nevers (Imaginary). Staging will be by Billy Cullum with musical direction by Phillip Shute.

With music and lyrics by Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes, In The Heights opened at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2008. It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, winning four including the Tony for Best Musical. It also won the 2009 Grammy Award for its Original Broadway Cast Album and was nominated for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Drama.

Award-winning BTA is a performing arts programme that has inspired and nurtured the talent of thousands of young performers over the past 30 years. Over the summer the BTA presented a critically-acclaimed production of Jason Robert Browne’s 13 in the West End at the Ambassadors Theatre.
