Broadway stars Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel to reunite for West End’s Waitress

Award-winning singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles will make her West End debut alongside Olivier and Tony Award-winning actor Gavin Creel next year in her hit show Waitress.

After making her stage acting debut in 2017 in the Broadway production of the show she-co-created, Bareilles will reprise her performance as Jenna opposite her Dr Pomatter, Creel (Hello Dolly! Broadway, The Book of Mormon, West End) at the Adelphi Theatre from 27 January until 7 March 2020.

The duo’s limited six-week West End run will be bookended by the show’s current Jenna and Dr Pomatter, Lucie Jones and David Hunter, who will take a break following their performance on 25 January 2020 and will return to the production from 9 March 2020.

Currently booking until March 2020, the first major West End musical to boast an all-female creative team, features a book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Bareilles. The production is directed by Tony Award-winning director Diana Paulus with choreography by Lorin Latarro.

Hunger for the London debut of the hit show resulted in an early announcement of an initial extended booking period weeks before the production even celebrated its official opening night in March this year.

Based on the 2007 film Waitress, the musical tale of love friendship and perfect pies opened on Broadway in 2016. A hit with audiences and critics, the show was nominated for four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical; two Drama League Award Nominations, including Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical; six Drama Desk Nominations, including Outstanding Musical; and four Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.

Waitress began previews in August 2015 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts before it transferred to Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016. The show is currently in the middle of a successful US tour and plans were recently announced for an Australian premiere production at the Sydney Lyric Theatre in 2020. Further productions will also open in Holland in 2020 and in Japan in 2021.

Waitress is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler and Norton and Elayne Herrick.
