Cameron Blakely has joined the cast for the touring production of The Addams Family musical which will debut in the UK next year.
The actor, whose previous credits include a two-year stint as Thenardier in Les Misérables in the West End, will play Gomez, the head of the distinctively creepy and kooky Addams Family opposite the previously announced Samantha Womack as Morticia in the major new touring production which opens at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre.
Directed by Matthew White (The Producers UK tour), the UK and Irish premiere of the show which has a book by the creators of the multi-award winning Jersey Boys, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, will launch in Edinburgh on 20 April 2017.
Also joining the famously ghoulish family are Valda Aviks (Funny Girl, Into the Woods) as Grandma Addams. Charlotte Page (A Little Night Music, The Phantom of the Opera) has been cast as Alice Beineke with Dale Rapley (King John, Wicked) as Mal Beineke; Grant McIntyre (We Are Here, Bugsy Malone) as Pugsley Addams; Dickon Gough (Pirates of Penzance, Carmen) as Lurch and Oliver Ormson (The Book of Mormon).
The ensemble includes Kathryn Barnes, Jessica Buckby, Perola Congo, Gavin Eden, Jacob Fisher, Christopher D Hunt, Kirsty Ingram, Rhona McGregor, Scott Paige and Jak Skelly.
They will be joining the previously announced Les Dennis as Uncle Fester and Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday Addams.
The UK and Ireland touring production will feature choreography by Alistair David, production design by Diego Pitarch, musical supervision by Richard Beadle, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and musical direction by Andrew Hilton.
Based on the much-loved characters created by Charles Addams and with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish), the original Broadway production opened on Broadway in 2010. Starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, the multi-million-dollar production won four Broadway.com audience awards.
The Broadway production closed at the end of 2011 and there were a number of international and touring productions of the show including a US tour also in 2011 and a European premiere in Sweden in 2012.
Presented by United Theatrical, Aria Entertainment and Music & Lyrics Limited in association with the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, the UK and Ireland tour will play the Festival Theatre until 29 April before heading for Northampton’s Royal & Derngate (9-13 May).
The tour will then move on to the New Wimbledon Theatre (16-20 May); Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre (23-27 May); the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend (30 May-3 June); Birmingham Hippodrome (6-10 June); Bath Theatre Royal (13-17 June); Hall for Cornwall, Truro (20-24 June); Nottingham Theatre Royal (27 June-1 July); the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (4-8 July); Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (18-29 July); Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (1-12 August); Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin (15-26 August); The Lowry, Salford (29 August-9 September); Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield (12-16 September); New Victoria Theatre, Woking (26-30 September); Grand Opera House, Belfast (3-7 October); Glasgow King’s Theatre (10-14 October); Wolverhampton Grand (17-21 October); Milton Keynes Theatre (24-28 October) and Orchard Theatre, Dartford (31 October-4 November).
