Comedian Stephen Frost will join Red Dwarf’s Suanne Braun to lead the cast of the world premiere of Fanatical at London’s Playground Theatre this November.
Due to run from 7 November until 8 December 2018, the new musical which takes a fond look at the sometimes bizarre and always off-beat world of sci-fi fandom is written by Matt Board (Austentatious) and Reina Hardy (Glassheart).
Known for appearing in hit TV shows including Blackadder and Have I Got News For You, Frost will join the previously announced Braun (Mamma Mia! Cabaret) in the production which features music and lyrics by composer Board and a book by playwright Hardy.
The cast will also include: Sophie Powles (Emmerdale, Holby City); Tim Rogers (Pirates Of Penzance, the Savoy Theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar UK tour); actress and theatre vlogger Amy Lovatt; Amber Sylvia Edwards (20th Century Boy, UK tour), Eddy Payne (Baby Come Back, Leicester Square Theatre), and the songwriter and actor Theo Crosby.
Directed by Shaun Kerryson, the story focuses on a group of sci-fi fans who gather for the first official convention to celebrate a cult TV show based on a reclusive writer’s comic-book story of the misfit crew of a space cargo ship.
The show will be designed by PJ McEvoy with original dramaturgy by Lotte Wakeham, choreography by Anthony Whiteman and musical supervision by Jim Henson.
Presented by original musical theatre specialists The Stable and Playground Theatre, the production is also linked to a crowdfunding campaign which offers Fanatical-related perks including opportunities to attend the dress rehearsal and the cast party.
