Natasha Barnes, Siobhan Athwal, Molly Lynch and Matthew Jacobs Morgan will star in the award-winning Wasted when it receives its world premiere as a fully staged show at the Southwark Playhouse this autumn.
Presented by Oli Sones and Sally Humphreys Productions, the rock musical that re-imagines the lives of the Brontë siblings in a modern setting features a score by Olivier Award-winning Christopher Ash (Showstoppers) and a book and lyrics by Carl Miller (Emil and the Detectives).
Funny Girl’s Barnes will play Charlotte Bronte alongside Athwal (Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s Globe) and Lynch (Sunset Boulevard, UK tour) as her sisters Emily and Anne and Morgan (Our Town, Almeida) as their brother Branwell.
Wasted was originally developed at BEAM and showcased at Theatre Royal Stratford East’s Musical Theatre Workshop before it debuted as a work in progress at the West Yorkshire Playhouse as part of the venue’s Brontë season in 2016.
Director Adam Lenson will once again take the helm of the show when it plays the south London venue for a limited four-week run from Thursday 6 September until Saturday 6 October 2018.
The production features musical direction by Tamara Singer, set and costume design by Libby Todd, lighting design by Matt Daw and sound design by Mike Thacker. Movement director is Natasha Harrison, associate director is Grace Taylor, associate set and costume designer is Rachael Ryan, associate movement director is Christina Fulcher and associate musical director is Joe Bunker.
Presented in the style of a rock documentary, Wasted tells the story of the three Brontë sisters and their brother Branwell in a tale of unrequited love, family feuds and untimely death.
