Cast for Amies and Clements virtual concert

Six’s Jodie Steele, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’s Hiba Elchikhe and Shrek’s Marcus Ayton will be among the West End stars featured in this weekend’s Barn Theatre’s instalment in the popular online series showcasing the work of Britain’s musical theatre composers.

Released on 27 June 2020 at 7.30pm BST on the Cirencester venue’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter channels, the fourth concert in the series will be a musical celebration of the work of the award-winning musical theatre composers Stephanie Jayne Amies and Teddy Clements.

Hosted by Barn Theatre producer Jamie Chapman Dixon, The Barn Theatre Presents: The Music of Amies & Clements will also include a discussion with the composers about their careers to date and the creative process behind their songs. There will also be special appearances from some of the performers who will discuss their experience rehearsing and recording their contributions from their homes.

The concert line-up will also include: Josh Andrews (42nd Street); Adam Bailey (The Book of Mormon); Rebecca Bailey (Tomorrow, Maybe); Cameron Bernard Jones (Tina the Musical); 2020 drama school graduate Esmée Cook; Phoebe Fildes (Assassins, Once); Aidan Harkins (The Importance of Being Earnest); Lucy Ireland; Sam Otto (The State); Evie Rose Lane (Footloose, Just So); and Bronte Tadman (Ben Hur).

The composers of the award-winning musical Tomorrow, Maybe, Amies and Clements formed the Aardvarks Can’t Jump in 2016. Formed with their close friend and director Kevin Jones the production company was set up to help workshop and support new musicals.

The concert series is part of the Barn Theatre’s Behind The Barn Door live streaming service which was launched in March in response to the theatre closedown. The service includes a full recording of the venue’s critically-acclaimed 2019 Built By Barn production of William Shakespeare’s Henry V directed by Hal Chambers and the Bard From The Barn series of the Bard’s classic monologues re-imagined to reflect the present-day lockdown.

The next composer concert on 11 July will celebrate the music of playwright, lyricist and director Annabel Mutale Reed. Previous concerts can be viewed on the Barn’s YouTube channel.

A registered charity facing a loss of £250,000, the Barn Theatre has launched the SAVE OUR BARN campaign to raise funds to ensure the venue is able to reopen when lockdown restrictions are lifted. Supporters can donate via barntheatre.org.uk.

Launched in 2018, the ambitious project to create a major producing house at the heart of the development of Cirencester’s Grade II listed Ingleside House attracted support from leading Broadway director Jerry Mitchell and actors James Dreyfus, Matthew Kelly, Heida Reed and Daisy May Cooper.

In just two years the Barn Theatre has gained national recognition for producing 12 Built By Barn shows attracting over 80,000 theatregoers and winning The Stage’s Best Fringe Theatre of the Year Award 2019.

With strong links to the local community already well established the theatre has worked extensively with charities including Cirencester Housing for Young People and Age UK Gloucestershire.
