Cast for Barn Theatre’s re-imagined Murder For Two

Lee O’ Reilly and San Denia have been cast in Murder For Two at the Barn Theatre, Cirencester

Actor-musician graduate in 2020 Lee O’ Reilly will make his professional debut in The Barn Theatre’s new production of musical comedy Murder For Two next month.

O’Reilly will play Officer Marcus Moscowicz alongside Sam Denia (Anton Chekhov’s Sketches and Vaudevilles) as the Suspects in the opening production of the 2022 Built By Barn season at the Cotswold venue.

Running from 4 February until 5 March, the reimagined version of Kellen Blair and Joe Kinosian’s musical whodunit relocates the setting to the UK for the first time. The director of the 2019 Built By Barn production of The Importance of Being Earnest, Bryan Hodgson, will return to take charge of the musical mystery which features the two actors playing 13 characters and the piano.

Commenting on the production, Hodgson said: “I’ve always adored working at the Barn and am so excited to be returning for the ridiculous romp that is Murder For Two.

“The show is such a tonic coming out of last year, and the silliness of the piece brings a well-timed smile to all. For the first time ever this show will be set in the UK (firmly in the realms of Gloucestershire) and with only two guys playing every suspect, detective, victim, and murderer, this show is Agatha Christie gone wrong… and then some!”

Hodgson heads a creative team that includes set designer Justin Williams, musical supervisor Nicole Johnson, lighting designer Sam Rowcliffe-Tanner, sound designer Ben Thomas and costume designer Denise Cleal. The production features the track ‘Steppin’ Out’ by Ethan Deppe.

With a book and music by Kinosian and book and lyrics by Blair, the Off-Broadway hit received its European premiere at The Watermill Theatre in 2017.

The new season at the distinctive 200-seat Cirencester venue will also feature the world premiere of The Mozart Question and new productions of the musical revue Some Enchanted Evening – The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein and the Tony Award-winning show Million Dollar Quartet.
