Casting has been confirmed for the upcoming London return of Hot Mess, the winner of Musical Theatre Review’s Best Musical Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025.
Created by the team behind the hit musical, 42 Balloons – Jack Godfrey and Ellie Coote – the production is due to play The Other Palace from 13 June to 6 September.
Danielle Steers (SIX The Musical, Arts Theatre/Lyric Theatre/Vaudeville Theatre, The Cher Show, UK tour) will reprise her acclaimed performance as Earth alongside Morgan Gregory (The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson, UK tour, Back to the Future, Adelphi Theatre) as Humanity. They will be joined by Mia Quimpo (Pippin, Upstairs at the Gatehouse) as cover Earth and Nathan Shaw (Mamma Mia! The Party, O2, The Rocky Horror Show, UK and international tour) as cover Humanity.
Commenting on the cast and their show’s London encore, creators Godfrey and Coote said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Danielle Steers will be returning as Earth, and so excited to welcome Morgan Gregory to the company as Humanity. It was so wonderful to watch audiences fall in love with Danielle in Edinburgh and London last year, and we’re so grateful to be able to bring her back for our bigger, bolder production this year. After working with Morgan on 42 Balloons, we know what an absolute star and unbelievable triple threat performer he is. Together, they’re going to blow the roof off The Other Palace!”
Looking ahead to The Other Palace run, Steers added: “I am super excited to be returning to Hot Mess! The show is so fun and has a really important message at its core. Can’t wait!!!”
Gregory commented: “I am over the moon to be joining the team on this exciting new British musical. Working with Jack and Ellie again after 42 Balloons is an absolute delight and they continue to make magic.”
The musical which reimagines the relationship between Earth and Humanity as a tempestuous romance, played an acclaimed world premiere run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 where it won Musical Theatre Review’s Best Musical Award. The production also won the Fringe First award in recognition for exceptional new writing, the Popcorn Writing Award 2025, The List magazine’s International Fringe Encore Series prize and was included in The Stage’s Fringe Five.
The production features music supervision and co-orchestrations by Joe Beighton, choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento, set design by Shankho Chaudhuri, lighting design by Ryan Joseph Stafford, audio production and sound design by Paul Gatehouse, costume design by Sarah Mercadé, musical direction by Sara De Sanctis, casting by Pearson Casting and intimacy coordination by Lex Kaby. The dramaturg is Deirdre O’Halloran, with Lydia Cook as associate director, Taz Hoesli as associate choreographer, Phil Burke as associate lighting designer, Charlie Smith and Richard Pomeroy as associate sound designers, Ciéranne Kennedy-Bell as costume supervisor, Rosie Morgan as company stage manager, James Anderton as production manager and Byron Ladd-Carr as sound No.1.
Hot Mess is produced by Vicky Graham Productions, Birmingham Hippodrome, and Aria Entertainment, TRW Production, Pascal Ultee Productions, and RJG Productions as general managers.
The musical became the first production from the New Musical Theatre Department at Birmingham Hippodrome (the UK’s only in-house new musical theatre department) to transfer to London when it played Southwark Playhouse Elephant last autumn.
