Edwin Ray will step out of the ensemble to take on a starring role when the hit touring production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical takes to the road again this summer.
The actor/dancer whose musical credits include Follies and We Will Rock You will star alongside Olivier Award-winning actor Miles Western (Pageant, The Phantom of the Opera) as Bernadette and Nick Hayes (Footloose, The Wedding Singer) as Adam/Felicia in the tour which will reopen at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham on 23 June.
Presented by Mark Goucher, first-time producer and former star of the show, Jason Donovan, Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale, the company also includes Daniel Fletcher as Bob, Rebecca Lisewski as Marion, Kevin Yates as Miss Understanding, Gracie Lai as Cynthia and Ronan Burns as Frank. The Divas will be played by Claudia Kariuki, Rosie Glossop and Aiesha Pease and the cast is completed by Emma Katie Adcock, Jak Allen-Anderson, Allie Daniel, Martin Harding, Clarice Julianda, Jemima Loddy, Nathan Ryles, Tom Scanlon and Jermaine Woods.
Following the Cheltenham dates, the tour is due to visit Leeds, Hull, Bath, Northampton, Glasgow, Wimbledon, Oxford, Birmingham, Southend, Leicester, Bristol, Woking and Bromley.
The hit new production from the team behind the acclaimed tour of Hairspray which will also relaunch in June with the support of the UK Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund, is directed by Ian Talbot. Choreography is by Tom Jackson-Greaves with designs by Charles Cusick Smith and Phil R Daniels, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Ben Harrison.
Based on the cult 1994 film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the musical version has a book by the film’s writer and director Stephan Elliot and Allan Scott. Developed for the stage by Simon Phillips with musical arrangements by Stephen ‘Spud’ Murphy and orchestrations by Murphy and Charlie Hull.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical debuted in Sydney in 2006 before arriving in London in 2009 with Donovan starring alongside Tony Sheldon and Oliver Thornton. Donovan returned to the show for the first UK tour in 2013 and was last seen in the show for the second UK tour which began in 2015.
