Casting update for Hello, Dolly! in Paris

There’s more than one Hello, Dolly! for musicals lovers to gorge themselves on this autumn and hot on the heels of Imelda Staunton’s Dolly Levi meeting her match at the London Palladium when its limited run ends on 14 September, it’s curtain-up in Paris for Caroline O’Connor’s Dolly at the Lido2 on the Champs-Elysees on 7 November.

The Anglo-Australian actress, born in Oldham, and raised in Sydney, is no newcomer to Paris, winning rave reviews for her Nellie Lovett in Sweeney Todd at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 2011. Stephen Sondheim himself said she was “the best Mrs Lovett I’ve ever seen”.

Supporting O’Connor in the Jerry Herman classic are Peter Polycarpou as Horace Vandergelder, Monique Young as Irene Molloy, Carl Au as Cornelius Hackl, Reece McGowan as Barnaby Tucker, Chrissie Bhima as Minnie Fay, Jordan Crouch as Ambrose Kemper and Jemima Eaton as Ermengarde in a production directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear. The musical director is Nigel Lilley.

Also opening in Paris in November is a French-language Les Misérables, (with English surtitles) at the Chatelet. It’s still the Alain Boublil-Claude-Michel Schönberg musical we all love.
Eurostar returns are priced from £78 and if you book a matinee you can easily do there and back in the day with time for some French cuisine on top!
