INTO THE UNKNOWN – Samantha Barks (Westway Music – Download)
Star rating: five stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Samantha Barks’ album Into the Unknown has just been released while she is still taking the West End by storm in Frozen playing the role of Elsa.
What a powerhouse of a voice! I was blown away from the first track all the way through this absolutely wonderful album. Whether it is a sentimental number or a full-blown power ballad, Barks gives it her all and interprets the songs in such a beautiful way, helped of course by the sympathetic arrangements and orchestrations. A wonderful selection of songs are included on this album – a great variety of light and shade – proving not only that Barks is a great singer but also a very intuitive actor.
Tracks: ‘Into the Unknown’ (Frozen 2), ‘Heart of Stone’ (Six), ‘Never Enough’ (The Greatest Showman), ‘How Far I’ll Go’ (Moana), ‘Reflection’ (Mulan), ‘Waving Through a Window’ (Dear Evan Hansen), ‘Only Us’ (ft Ramin Karimloo) (Dear Evan Hansen), ‘I’d Rather Be Me’ (Mean Girls), ‘With You’ (Ghost), ‘Let Me Be Your Star’ (ft Stephanie McKeon) (Smash)’, ‘Falling Slowly’ (Once)’ and ‘Mary Jane’ (Jagged Little Pill).
