Burt Bacharach is one of the world’s most acclaimed, award-winning composers/songwriters. His music is as diverse as his audiences, spanning generations and continents, as he is celebrated both as a pop culture icon and one of the world’s greatest contemporary composers. As far back as I can remember Bacharach has always been around, writing pop classics as well as film scores and the award-winning musical of the late 1960s – Promises, Promises. His association with Dionne Warwick is world renowned and the amount of hits he had with her alone is staggering.
Now, 50 odd years later we have a new Bacharach musical written with Steven Sater (book and lyrics). The story follows a couple caught between their present and their past. A time travel leaping back and forward throughout the couple’s lives.
The music is classic Bacharach and there really isn’t a dud track amongst the 13 on the concept album. What helps, of course, is the fact that the artists included on the album are of the highest calibre and some really quite famous names in there smash the Bacharach numbers. Artists involved are: Colton Ryan, Molly Gordon, Betsy Wolfe, Tracie Thoms, Ethan Slater, Lilli Cooper, Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, Katrina Lenk, Ari’el Stachel, Derek Klena, Christy Altomare, Ramin Karimloo, Jennifer Holliday, Kristin Chenoweth, Santino Fontana, Laura Osnes, Graham Phillips and Auli’I Cravalho.

It would be very ignoble of me to chose one track over all the others but I have to admit I have a very soft spot for Jennifer Holliday singing ‘Every Other Hour’.
