THE RHYTHM OF LIFE – JOANNA FOREST (Piccolo Music: PICCOLOCD1)

I may just be getting old but I don’t quite understand the concept of this album. It is a: ‘crossover family musical adventure, exploring the day in the life of a child’.
The tracks are set in time of day – so track one is 8am; track two is 9am etc. So, we start with 8am and Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’ and 9am is ‘Rhythm of Life’ – okay so I get both of those but then at 10am we have ‘Hushabye Mountain’! The day goes on with lunchtime, afternoon and then evening. Tracks include: ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing’; ‘Banquet Fugue’; ‘Because We Believe’; ‘Jeux D’Enfants Suite’; ‘If I Rules the World’; ‘Food, Glorious Food’; ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ and ‘Clair de Lune’. Joanna Forest has a couple of guest artists to help her on a couple of tracks: Paul Potts and Andy Day.
It’s a very pleasant album to listen to and I especially liked the arrangement for ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing’ and ‘Banquet Fugue’ made me smile but I have to be honest and say I don’t think I’d listen to it more than the once. However, Forest has a very lovely voice and I especially must mention Robert D C Emery who orchestrated and arranged the items as well as produced the album. His arrangements, in particular, surprised me on a couple of the tracks – in a good way. Although I could have done without some of the sound effects.
An enjoyable album but not one for me unfortunately.
