Cinema showing for The Other Palace’s Heathers The Musical

The hit London production of Heathers The Musical is heading for cinemas across the country for one night only in March.

Continuing to play to enthusiastic audiences at The Other Palace until 3 September 2023, the award-winning musical will be seen on the big screen nationwide on 28 March 2023.

Distributed by Kaleidoscope Entertainment, the live recording which was captured at The Other Palace, the musical’s original and current home, features 2022 Westerberg High classmates Ailsa Davidson (Veronica Sawyer), Simon Gordon (Jason ‘J.D’ Dean), with Maddison Firth (Heather Chandler), Vivian Panka (Heather Duke) and Teleri Hughes (Heather McNamara).

Cast members from 2022 also featuring in the film include Mhairi Angus (Martha Dunnstock), Vicki Lee Taylor (Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s mother), Liam Doyle (Kurt Kelly) and Rory Phelan (Ram Sweeney). The cast is completed by Andy Brady, Oliver Brooks, Jermaine Woods, Benjamin Karran, Chris Parkinson, Eleanor Morrison-Halliday, Mary-Jean Caldwell, Hannah Lowther and May Tether.

Commenting on the UK cinema release, the musical’s director Andy Fickman said: “Directing Heathers The Musical has been a career high for me. So when we got a chance to film the stage capture at our beloved theatre in London where it all began – The Other Palace – that was an even bigger high – and thanks to our partners at Bill Kenwright Studios, Village Roadshow and now Kaleidoscope we get a chance to share that the magic at cinemas all across the UK. I can’t stop smiling and I hope audiences feel the same way!”

Presented by Bill Kenwright and Paul Taylor-Mills, the critic and crowd-pleasing production returned to its original London home in early 2022. A record-breaker at The Other Palace within days of tickets first going on sale, Heathers The Musical was the first show at The Other Palace to move from a studio workshop to a main house production before becoming the first production from the venue to celebrate a West End transfer in 2018. The production continued its record-breaking ways at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2018 and went on to win the WhatsOnStage award for Best New Musical in 2019.

In 2021 the production returned to the Haymarket for another successful West End run in parallel with a UK tour, before going back to The Other Palace in November for another record-breaking run.

A re-working of the cult classic Eighties film Heathers which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers The Musical features music, lyrics and book by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy.

Based on Daniel Waters’ original screenplay for Michael Lehmann’s dark tale of murderous teenage angst, the musical was initially presented at The Other Palace in workshop form in 2017 as the venue’s first Work in Progress production.

The show arrived in the UK following successful runs in the US in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, and in Sydney Australia. Featuring new material exclusively written for the London production by Murphy and O’Keefe, the production is directed by the show’s original Off-Broadway director Fickman. Choreography is by Gary Lloyd, with designs by David Shields, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound by Dan Samson.

Special singalong performances of Heathers The Musical will take place on the evenings of 14 April, 25 May, 30 June and 9 August. Audience members will once again be encouraged to join in the fun in costume. There will also be three more relaxed performances with the first taking place on 2 April, the second on 14 June and the third on 2 August.
