Clive Rowe will join the cast of The Prince Of Egypt when the hit stage musical version of the popular animated film resumes performances at London’s Dominion Theatre on 1 July 2021.
An Olivier Award winner for his performance as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Richard Eyre’s Guys and Dolls, Rowe (Me and My Girl, Chichester Festival Theatre, In The Willows UK tour) will play Jethro in the production which was just days into its world premiere season when the pandemic hit.
With tickets now on sale for performances up to 8 January 2022, Rowe will join the 43-strong cast led by Luke Brady (Moses), Liam Tamne (Ramses), Christine Allado (Tzipporah), Alexia Khadime (Miriam), Joe Dixon (Seti), Debbie Kurup (Tuya), Mercedesz Csampai (Yocheved), Adam Pearce (Hotep), Tanisha Spring (Nefertari) and Silas Wyatt-Barke (Aaron). The cast is subject to change.
Announcing the reopening plans earlier this year, DreamWorks Theatricals, Michael McCabe and Neil Laidlaw said in a joint statement: “The sheer size of this historic venue allows for full social distancing and, as soon as all legal limits on social contact are removed, we will return to our full audience capacity at the earliest opportunity.
“In reopening, we are proud to reunite our exceptional company and provide employment again for 149 uniquely talented individuals. We’d like to thank each and every one of them for their unwavering commitment and resilience during this difficult time for everyone in our industry. We look forward to telling this beloved story once again and experiencing the euphoric reactions that we were privileged to receive from audiences in 2020.”
Allowing for possible delays in the fourth stage of the Government’s roadmap, performances between 1 July and 4 September will take place under the Step 3 safety protocols surrounding social distancing.
From 6 September it is hoped that Step 4 of the roadmap will have been applied with all legal limits on indoor gatherings removed. If the Government is forced to delay any of the steps in the timeline or if the Government accelerates the relaxation of social contact on or before 1 July, performances will operate under Step 4 protocols at the earliest opportunity.
The entire lavish stage production complete with its cast and orchestra of nearly 60 artists will be presented in its original form at all performances.
With a book by Phillip LaZebnik (Disney’s Mulan and Pocahontas), the musical features new songs by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) together with the five he contributed to the DreamWorks’ film including the movie’s Oscar-winning song ‘When You Believe’ along with ‘Deliver Us’, ‘All I Ever Wanted’ and ‘Through Heaven’s Eyes’.
Based on the hit film, the stage version originally premiered at TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley in the US in 2017 and has been seen at Denmark’s Fredericia Teater. The revised version of the show which includes a new material was showcased at a private reading in London in early 2019.
The Prince Of Egypt is directed by Scott Schwartz with choreography by Sean Cheesman, set designer by Kevin Depinet, costume designs by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Mike Billings, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection designs by Jon Driscoll, illusions by Chris Fisher, wigs, hair and make-up design by Campbell Young Associates, orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, musical supervision and arrangements by Dominick Amendum, musical direction by Dave Rose, casting by Jim Arnold and children’s casting by Verity Naughton.
