Cleopatra’s tangled relationship with Mark Antony and Julius Caesar provides the inspiration for a new musical which debuts in concert form at the Actors’ Church in Covent Garden on Saturday (11 May 2019).
Performed as part of Iris Theatre Company’s Work In Progress season, Cleopatra The Musical features music by musical director Lyndon Samuel and a book and lyrics by Robert Gould (My Land’s Shore).
With direction by Brendan Matthew, the cast for Cleopatra In Concert will be led by Lily De La Haye (My Land’s Shore, Parade) in the title role. Rhys Benjamin (Suessical, The Fix) will play Mark Antony, with Kit Esurouso (Tiger Bay, Showboat) as Julius Caesar, Gareth Evans (Tuck, Loserville) as Octavian and Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong (Caroline Or Change, Son Of A Preacher Man) as Calpurnia.
They will be joined by: Tom Blackmore (Grindr The Opera, My Land’s Shore), Luke Byrne (White Christmas, La Cage Aux Folles), Harry Downes (Thrill Me), Ceris Hine (Around The World in 80 Days, My Land’s Shore), Kate Hume (The Snow Queen, The Kissing Dance) and newcomer Dylan Ross.
The creative team for the concert includes: assistant director Laura Jury Hyde with musical staging by Adam Haigh and musical direction by the show’s composer Lyndon Samuel.
