Cool Rider (formerly entitled Grease 2 in Concert) has added a second performance at 11pm on Monday 27 January 2014 at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue – the earlier performance has sold out.
It has also been announced that Reece Shearsmith will appear as biology teacher Mr Stuart. Shearsmith is best known for his television work in The League of Gentleman and Psychoville. Recent stage work includes Gilvert Chilvers in Betty Blue Eyes at the Novello Theatre and Leo Bloom in The Producers at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Telling the love story of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone and English transfer student Michael Carrington, Cool Rider follows their road to romance from bowling alley to burger joint, sing-a-long-a-sex education class to talent show, and long, romantic motorcycle rides to a slightly incongruous luau ending. Featuring the songs ‘Who’s That Guy?’, ‘Score Tonight’, ‘Cool Rider’, ‘Girl For All Seasons’ and ‘Rock-a-Hula Luau (Summer Is Coming)’, Grease 2 In Concert celebrates the infamous styles, moves and wheels of Rydell High School.
Based on the 1982 movie of the same name, Paramount Pictures released Grease 2 in the wake of the huge popularity of its filmic predecessor. Despite being produced by Allan Carr and Robert Stigwood and featuring a cast headed by Michelle Pfeifer and Maxwell Caulfield, it failed to ignite the box office. However, the film quickly became a firm favourite amongst cult movie and musical fans.
