Janie Dee, Maria Friedman, Lauren Samuels, Sophie Evans, Cedric Neal and a celebration of the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber will be among the attractions lined up to feature over the next two months at London’s Crazy Coqs within the Brasserie Zédel complex.
Subject to Government guidelines and any changes to lockdown rules, the popular venue is hoping to host a limited season of live and live-streamed shows this month followed by a full programme in September.
When permitted the live shows will be performed to a reduced capacity with a socially distanced seating plan, where the front row is at least 2.5 metres from the stage, and all table groupings are at least one metre apart. There will be a maximum of three performers on stage to maintain social distancing. Customers will be invited to purchase tables, rather than individual tickets, to comply with the ‘reduced social bubble’ government advice. A number of shows will also be streamed live in partnership with Fane Online.
Welsh jazz singer and actor Ian Shaw is currently set to take centre stage at the venue on the 27, 28 and 29 August with his cabaret show Love, Fame & Happiness: When Joni Met Bowie.
The September programme will open with West End favourite Janie Dee accompanied by her musical director Stephen Higgins in her new show Janie Dee: New Life. The shows will be on the 1, 2 and 3 September at 7pm with the 3 September show also available as a live stream.
On 13 September, the first themed show of the season will be A Celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber presented by lyricist Mark Robert Petty and featuring a host of West End stars performing some of the composer’s best-loved songs. The show will also be available as a live stream.
Other highlights for September include: musical theatre stalwart Maria Friedman will join her double Tony nominee musical director Jason Carr for a re-imagined version of her hit show celebrating the work of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim – Maria Friedman: Lennie & Steve (21, 23, 24 and 25 September with live stream); and a celebration of Judy Garland by West End stars Lauren Samuels and Sophie Evans. Marking ten years since they first met on the BBC TV talent show Over The Rainbow, Wicked’s Evans and Bend It Like Beckham’s Samuels will perform a selection of songs most closely associated with Garland on 29 September (will also be available as a live stream).
The programme also includes: West End star Sophie-Louise Dann with Simon Beck on piano celebrating the great British musical in Sophie-Louise Dann: May I Have A Moment? on 12 September (also available as a live stream); West End and Broadway actor Cedric Neal in Cedric Neal: Songversations Of A Black Man – an evening of music and stories about black male writers, composers and artists (7 September, will also be available as a live stream).
