In the charming yet cheeky cabaret Julie Madly Deeply, playing at London’s Park Theatre from 20 December 2021 to 1 January 2022, award-winning performer Sarah-Louise Young pays tribute to beloved showbiz icon Dame Julie Andrews while at the same time taking an engaging look at fame and fandom.
Sarah-Louise (Fascinating Aida, An Evening Without Kate Bush, La Soirée, and over a decade with Olivier Award-winning improvised musical The Showstoppers!) intertwines Julie Andrews’ much-loved songs from musicals including Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady with stories and anecdotes about her own life, from her beginnings as a child star to the more recent challenges of losing her famous singing voice.
What emerges is a delightfully funny and candid love letter to a true showbusiness survivor.
Julie Madly Deeply is directed by Russell Lucas (who also made contributions to the libretto) and features Sarah-Louise’s long-time collaborator, musical director and arranger Michael Roulston at the piano. Together Sarah-Louise and Michael have previously appeared in their sell-out shows Songs For Cynics, Songs For Lovers (And Other Idiots), Je Regrette! and Two Faced.
The Evening Standard’s four-star review of Julie Madly Deeply said: “The hills are alive with the sound of singalongs and gags in this witty, affectionate tribute”, while Musical Theatre Review’s contributor wrote: “It is a great tonic if you are feeling blue and are in need of some ‘raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens’.”
Julie Madly Deeply enjoyed a sold-out Off-Broadway run in 2019 and was also been seen in London’s West End in 2013-2014. The production is presented by arrangement with One Eyed Man Productions, with thanks to James Seabright Productions.
