The multi-award-winning Back to the Future The Musical will embark on its first UK tour in the autumn of 2026.
Launching at the Bristol Hippodrome from 8 October 2026 until 21 November 2026, the touring production will play a Christmas season at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 2 December 2026 until 2 January 2027. Initial confirmed dates and venues also include Liverpool Empire (12 January to 6 February 2027), Milton Keynes Theatre (9 to 27 February 2027), Sunderland Empire (13 April to 8 May 2027) and Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (8 June to 3 July 2027). Further venues and casting will be announced at a later date.
Announcing the tour, lead producer Colin Ingram said: “I’m so delighted that the DeLorean will be travelling 88 mph to all the main theatre cities in the UK so that we can bring this heartfelt spectacle of a show to those who haven’t seen it in the West End or want to see it again. Great Scott! Audiences are going to have such a fun and thrilling ride in a show which will tour in all its glory and be one of the biggest sets to come out on the road.”
Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, Back to the Future The Musical is the brainchild of Ingram (Ghost – The Musical) and the creators of the much-loved time-travelling film series, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale.
The critically acclaimed Olivier, WhatsOnStage and Broadway World Award-winning Best New Musical celebrated its opening night at London’s Adelphi Theatre on 13 September 2021.
Featuring a book by Gale along with new music and lyrics by the film’s Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, the stage musical also includes songs from the film including Huey Lewis and the News’ Oscar-nominated ‘The Power of Love’.
Tony Award-winning director John Rando (Urinetown, On the Town) heads a creative team that includes the multi-Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Hugh Vansone (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound) and Finn Ross (video). Choreography is by Chris Bailey, with illusions by Chris Fisher, musical supervision and vocal arrangements by Nick Finlow, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook and dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod Associates.
The musical premiered in Manchester in early 2020 at the start of what was to have been a limited 12-week season before heading for London. The Broadway production began performances on 30 June 2023. Productions currently include the North American tour, a production in Japan, on Royal Caribbean Cruises, with Australian and German productions to follow. The show has been seen by over four million people worldwide so far.
