X Factor singer turned stage star Diana Vickers will take on the central role in the touring production of the Dusty Springfield-inspired Son of a Preacher Man.
With a book by Warner Brown and directed and choreographed by Strictly’s King of the pithy putdown, Craig Revel Horwood, the national tour is due to begin at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on Monday 4 September.
The tour is due to visit Birmingham, Sunderland, Manchester, York, Stoke, Edinburgh, Oxford, Tunbridge Wells, Hull, Wimbledon, Belfast, High Wycombe, Southend, Nottingham, Coventry, Aylesbury, Blackpool, Torquay, Brighton, Woking, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Liverpool.
Featuring Springfield’s most memorable hits, the show tells the story of three strangers drawn to the site of a famous 1960s Soho club where the Preacher Man of the title used to dispense advice to his lovelorn patrons.
Vickers first found fame as a quirky contestant on the TV talent show The X Factor before winning new fans and critical acclaim for her professional stage acting debut in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Her recent theatre credits include the touring production of The Rocky Horror Show.
Currently working with Michael Feinstein on Broadway musicals The Gold Room and The Thomas Crown Affair, stage and screenwriter Brown is also known for the arena production Walking With Dinosaurs.
Horwood recently returned to his roots as a performer starring as Miss Hannigan in the UK national tour of Annie and as Captain Hook in Peter Pan at the Churchill Theatre last Christmas.
He will head a creative team that includes set and costume designer Morgan Large; musical supervisor Paul Herbert; lighting designer Richard G Jones; sound designer Richard Brooker; associate director and choreographer David James Hulston and casting director Anne Vosser.
Further casting and 2018 tour dates are to be announced at a later date.
