Dreamgirl Marisha Wallace will perform two intimate concerts at the Charing Cross Theatre in December just weeks after stepping permanently into the role of Effie White.
The singer who had been alternating the demanding role with Karen Mav in support of the show’s launch Effie, Amber Riley, at the Savoy Theatre will follow her full-time debut as Effie next week with the two shows on Sunday 3 December.
Celebrating the release of Wallace’s first album Soul Holiday, the shows will feature special guests and performances of a selection of tracks from the record and other seasonal favourites.
Songs included on the set list include ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’, ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’ and ‘Joyful, Joyful’ from the film Sister Act 2.
Wallace, who made her West End debut in Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre direct from Broadway, has starred as Celie in The Color Purple at Cadogan Hall, and also appeared on Broadway in Disney’s Aladdin.
Commenting on the choice of tracks for her album, Wallace said: “My memories of Christmas live in the music that I listened to while making Christmas dinner with my Grandma Mary. The songs that rang through the house while we unwrapped gifts and prayed together over the food. I wanted to create an album that had all the fixings of a Christmas dinner but with a healthy helping of soul. A Christmas album that you would want to listen to even if it wasn’t Christmas. In a world that is in much need of some joy, let’s start with the soul.”
