The critically-acclaimed UK premiere run of Dreamgirls will give its final performance at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday 12 January 2019 ahead of a UK tour.
Currently starring Marisha Wallace, Moya Angela and Karen Mav sharing the iconic role of Effie White, with Asmeret Ghebremichael as Lorrell Robinson and Brennyn Lark as Deena Jones, the award-winning production will end after lighting up the Savoy for over two years.
Directed and choreographed by Olivier and Tony award-winning Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Disney’s Aladdin) the production’s creative team includes set designer Tim Hatley and costume designer Gregg Barnes.
The team also includes lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Richard Brooker, hair designer Josh Marquette, musical supervisor Nick Finlow, and orchestrator Harold Wheeler, with additional material by Willie Reale.
Details of the UK touring version of the show will be released at a later date.
The Original London Cast Recording of the West End production of Dreamgirls is available by Sony Masterworks Broadway.
With book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, Dreamgirls debuted on Broadway in 1981 in a production directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett which won six Tony awards.
The original cast recording won two Grammy Awards for Best Musical Album and Best Vocal Performance for Jennifer Holliday’s ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’. In 2006 it was adapted into an Oscar-winning motion picture starring Beyoncé Knowles, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx, and featured a star-making and Oscar winning performance from UK and US The Voice coach, Jennifer Hudson.
