Illuminations are releasing the DVD and Blu-rays of Matthew Bourne’s hit 2018 re-imagined version of his innovative Swan Lake and 2019’s critically-acclaimed Romeo + Juliet.

Filmed live at Sadler’s Wells during the 2018/2019 tour, the 21st century version of Bourne’s convention-bending version of the classic ballet Swan Lake features Liam Mower as The Prince, with Nicole Kabera as The Queen and Will Bozier portraying the iconic role of The Swan and The Stranger.

Already available and priced at £17.99 for the DVD and £19.99 for the Blu-ray, the release includes the new film The Making of Swan Lake featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Bourne, Bozier, Mower and the original 1995 Swan/Stranger Adam Cooper.

Still widely known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, the convention-bending version of the classic ballet debuted at Sadler’s Wells in November 1995. A critical and crowd-pleasing hit, Bourne’s Swan Lake has collected over 30 international awards including an Olivier in the UK and three Tonys on Broadway.

New Adventures’ Swan Lake was re-imagined for the 21st century audience by director and choreographer Bourne working with regular associate artists: Lez Brotherston (set and costumes) and Paule Constable (lighting)

Illuminations will also release a DVD and Blu-ray of Bourne’s recent critically acclaimed version of Romeo + Juliet next month. New Adventures’ passionate and contemporary re-working of Shakespeare’s classic tale of doomed love, created by Bourne and the New Adventures artistic team, was filmed live at Sadler’s Wells in August 2019.

On sale from 25 August, the DVD and Blu-ray release includes the new film, The Making of Romeo + Juliet, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Bourne, artistic director Etta Murfitt, young associate choreographer Arielle Smith and cast members Paris Fitzpatrick, Cordelia Braithwaite and Daisy May Kemp.
