A new production of Off-Broadway musical theatre satire The Musical of Musicals… The Musical! will be the debut show from actor and director Sharon Byatt’s new company Laffan Productions.
Starring former Brookside favourite Eithne Brown, the first professional production of the show in the UK outside of London will play Liverpool’s Hope Street Theatre from 16-27 November 2021.
Announcing the production, director and producer Byatt said: “Musical theatre has always been a major part of my life and to be able to launch my new company with a show that pays homage to so many of the greats of musical theatre was the perfect fit.
“I am delighted to have Eithne headline our brilliant company, she brings so much warmth and generosity of spirit into everything she does and I can’t wait to see what magic happens in the rehearsal room with her.
“I am thrilled that the whole company of The Musical of Musicals… The Musical! are from Liverpool or have a distinct connection to the city. Laffan Productions have an ambition to showcase the immense talent the region has to offer and this magnificent company will do just that.”
Brown whose genre credits include the original West End production of Blood Brothers, will be joined by Tori Hargreaves (Blood Brothers, Soho Cinders), Dominic Treacy (The History Boys) and John-Paul Briss (Mamma Mia!) with recent graduate of The Liverpool Theatre School, Amy Leek making her professional debut in the production.
Byatt will direct and choreograph the production which will feature musical direction by Jordan Alexander.
Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell’s five act musical satire premiered Off-Broadway at the York Theatre in 2003 and returned to New York with the same cast two years later. The show made its UK debut in 2006 at the Sound Theatre in central London. A US virtual production was presented online in April this year to raise funds to help fund repairs to the York Theatre following flooding caused by a burst water main.
