Eva Maria Marold performed Ziemlich 30 – Ziemlich Schlager at the Metropol, Vienna.
After a successful solo cabaret entitled Working Mum, the show Hafen Wien at the Rabenhof Theater, as well as the release of her book, the multi-talented and musical theatre star Eva Maria Marold has returned to her musical roots. In October 2013 she released a new album of original material, Ziemlich 30. Now she has hit the road again, the first stop being the Metropol, Vienna.
The concert consisted of songs from her album and her childhood, as well as a few surprises. Highlights included the glorious opener ‘Du Bist Am Leben’, taken from her new album, an energetic take on Tina Turner’s ‘River Deep Mountain High’, a medley of German songs with some extremely humorous anecdotes in-between, together with a beautiful rendition of ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’ from Jesus Christ Superstar, one of the first songs she performed in musical theatre. She also brought back a few impersonations from her cabaret Working Mum, which were extremely funny.
Marold impressed vocally throughout the evening. She sang with great clarity, even though the band was a bit too loud at times. The songs on her album are extremely varied, some ballads, some uptempo, a few rock riffs at times, but all perfect for Marold’s voice, and she delivered each and every song beautifully. On one of the numbers, ‘Nur Für Mich’, she was even joined by MissSiss. It might not be the strongest track on the album but was rather enjoyable in this duet version.
Marold not only possesses a great voice but also impressive acting skills, and she combined these two to create a show that we will be hopefully seeing more of in the future.
Her band consisted of Goran Mikolec (guitar), Martin Payr (keyboards), Oliver Gattinger (drums) and Willi Langer on bass.
