Jamie Lloyd’s critically acclaimed revival of Sunset Boulevard and the Bridge Theatre’s hit production of Guys & Dolls were the big genre winners at the 67th Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Sunset Boulevard’s director Lloyd and the production’s leading lady Nicole Scherzinger claimed the awards for Best Director and Best Musical Performance respectively while the Nicholas Hytner-directed Guys & Dolls was crowned Best Musical.

The awards were handed out during a star-studded ceremony at London’s Claridge’s Hotel presented by writer and actor Susan Wokoma and hosted by Evening Standard owner Lord Lebedev and actors David Harewood, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen and Sienna Miller.

The two 2023 Special Editor’s Awards went to Elton John in ‘recognition of his collaborative approach to musical theatre’ and actress Ruth Wilson ‘in acknowledgement of her marathon 24-hour show The Second Woman’. Director Sam Mendes’ ‘dedication to theatre’ was recognised with The Lebedev Award.
