EVITA TOO – Edinburgh Festival Fringe

What a hoot and a half! If you’ve seen Sh!t Theatre shows before, you might have an idea of the chaotic, crazy, creative art these two women dish up. If you’re a newbie, brace yourself…

This is as entertaining as it gets.

Writers and performers Rebecca Biscuit and Louise Mothersole tell the unknown tale of Isabel Peron who started out as a nightclub dancer and went on to become the world’s first female president. She ran Argentina, kept Evita’s corpse hanging in her dining room, survived coups and literal wizards… then somehow got completely erased from history.

The show tells of Biscuit and Mothersole’s investigation that took them to Argentina and Spain, tracing this story – the narrative that didn’t become an Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical. The tale that never featured Elaine Paige as the leading lady. The story of Evita Too.

Of course, this is a whole lot more than a travelogue/road trip adventure. They require real, hands-on participation from members of the audience – margarita anyone?

The costume changes are seldom hidden and it’s unlikely that any other show at the Fringe includes nude roller skating. But it might catch on.

The timing between these women is immaculate – nuanced, clever and decidedly magnificent. The songs are first rate, the staging is used really well as the story is revealed to them and the stage becomes stripped of its coverings.

Yes, a simple analogy, but presented with so much devastating wit, charm and sheer bloody passion that it will live long in the memory.

Selling out fast, so do get yourself a ticket sooner rather than later.
