Extra performance and full cast for Chess concert

This summer’s Chess the Musical in Concert will play an additional performance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London next month.

After selling out its initial single date (1 August) in just seven days, and the addition of a second performance on 2 August, the concert will now play a matinee show on 2 August. The extra date was accompanied by the announcement of full casting for the production.

Samantha Barks (Frozen) will star as Florence alongside Hadley Fraser (Young Frankenstein) as Anatoly in the first West End production of Tim Rice and ABBA songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ work since 2018. They will be joined by Joel Harper-Jackson (Kinky Boots) as Freddie, Frances Mayli McCann (Bonnie and Clyde) as Svetlana, Ako Mitchell (Caroline, or Change) as The Arbiter and Craige Els (Matilda the Musical, The Imitation Game) as Molokov.

The ensemble will be made up of Joseph Craig, Darius J James, Aoife Kenny, Jessica Lee, Nick Len, Natasha May-Thomas, Alice Readie, Joshua Robinson, Stuart Rouse, Phoebe Samuel-Gray, Grant Thresh and Libby Watts.

Director and choreographer Nick Winston heads a creative team for the concert performance which includes associate director and choreographer Alexzandra Sarmiento, musical director Freddie Tapner, designer Ruth Sutcliffe, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, lighting programmer Chris Winn, sound designer Tom Marshall and video projection designer Duncan McLean with casting by Harry Blumenau.

Produced by Carter Dixon McGill Productions, Piers Cottee-Jones Entertainment, and Katy Galloway Productions, Chess The Musical is the first of three concerts featuring West End stars accompanied by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra due to be presented in August at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The multi-award-winning Kinky Boots will follow on 8 and 9 August, with the new Gunpowder Plot-inspired musical drama Treason The Musical on 22 and 23 August.
