The hit 30th-anniversary tour of Fame The Musical will culminate in a West End transfer run next autumn.
Directed and choreographed by Nick Winston, the production will dance into London’s Peacock Theatre from 11 September until 19 October 2019. Star casting for the West End run will be announced at a later date.
Presented by Selladoor Productions (the award-winning team behind popular productions of Footloose, Avenue Q and Flashdance – The Musical), with Gavin Kalin Productions, Dan Looney & Adam Paulden, Stephen McGill Productions and Jason Haigh-Ellery in association with BrightLights Productions and Big Dreamer Productions, the extensive tour launched in Manchester in July this year.
Commenting on the anniversary production, David De Silva, the driving force behind Fame on screen and on stage said: “What makes a musical ‘a classic’ or a ‘masterpiece’? It takes time. It passes from one generation to the next. It translates from one language to many. It entertains an audience with both laughter and tears. It inspires youth with passion and parents with nostalgia. The brilliantly directed and choreographed 30th anniversary Fame UK production of the show by Nick Winston is the best I’ve ever seen.”
Due to arrive at Cardiff’s New Theatre next week (24-29 September), the critically acclaimed touring production currently stars pop star turned actress Mica Paris in the pivotal role of Miss Sherman with Keith Jack (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, UK tour) as classical actor Nick Piazza and Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter in her stage debut role as ballet dancer Iris Kelly.
The production has been designed by Morgan Large, with sound design by Ben Harrison and Mark Crossland is the show’s musical supervisor.
After Cardiff, the production is due to visit Woking, Sheffield, Bridlington, Edinburgh, Ipswich, Brighton, Birmingham, Aylesbury, Shrewsbury, Wimbledon, Inverness, York, Liverpool, Grimsby, Swansea, Sunderland, Stoke, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Wirral and Canterbury.
Based on British director Alan Parker’s ground-breaking 1980 movie, Fame The Musical debuted in Miami in 1988 and arrived in London’s West End for the first time in 1995. The show which boasts a book by José Fernandez, music by Steve Margoshes and lyrics by Jacques Levy, first toured the UK in 1996.
