ABRSM’s Singing for Musical Theatre exams provides a clear learning journey, supporting motivation, encouraging progress and celebrating achievement.
The Singing for Musical Theatre exams are initially for Grades 1 to 3 but more grades will be available in 2019.
Brit School teacher and ABRSM consultant Rachel Lyske said:
“The new Singing for Musical Theatre syllabus provides a great opportunity for young singers to perform, learn, experiment, practise and most importantly have fun. The Singing for Musical Theatre syllabus provides many challenges with style, expression, acting through song, varying vocal qualities and techniques. The lists offer a variety of choices and encourage the discovery of new repertoire.”
The new exams, marked by renowned ABRSM exam experts, focus on performing and musical understanding with candidates singing three songs and some short musical tests. At these early grades, the c songs on the syllabus are suitable for developing voices, as well as being age-appropriate in content.

Of course, in the end, it’s all about the music and the syllabus is packed with fantastic songs – from Gershwin to Sondheim, the West End to Disney!
