Actresses Ruthie Henshall and Wendi Peters will be among the judges at this year’s West End Bake Off which has been scheduled for the day of Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle, Saturday 19 May.
Due to be held once again at The Actors’ Church, St Pauls the fourth edition of the annual fundraiser organised by theatrical charity Acting For Others combines freshly baked cakes and sweet treats with West End theatre stars.
The shows already lining up to show off their baking skills this year include: Hamilton, Mamma Mia!, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, The Play That Goes Wrong, Book of Mormon, Chess and Young Frankenstein. Further shows are to be announced.
Commenting on her involvement, West End and Broadway star Henshall said: “I’m so thrilled to be judging for the first time in this year’s right royal West End Bake Off. Not only is it such a special event that brings the West End together, to celebrate the wedding of His Royal Highness Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the same day, means it will be an extra special year. It’s also so wonderful to see that even after eight shows a week the backstage teams and performers are able to find time to put effort towards raising money for Acting for Others.”
Last year’s event culminated in judges Arlene Phillips and Janie Dee crowning the team from 42nd Street as champions. The star-studded fundraiser raises money for Acting For Others, the umbrella organisation that represents 15 UK theatrical charities.
Last year’s West End Bake Off raised more than £6,000 for the charitable group which offers emotional and financial support to members of the entertainment industry who have fallen on hard times.
The event is free to members of the public to attend with a suggested donation of £1. Judging begins at 10.30am with the winners announced at 11am. After announcing the winners, the Bake Off will be declared open for the public to buy cakes and signed posters and mingle with cast and crew from the participating shows.
