From Here to Eternity, Tim Rice’s new musical, will close on 26 April 2014, after a run of six months in the West End.
Composed by Stuart Brayson, with lyrics by Rice and a book by Bill Oakes, the musical – based on James Jones’ 1951 novel – opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October 23. It will now close on April 26, 2014.
From Here to Eternity’s cast includes Darius Campbell, Robert Lonsdale, Rebecca Thornhill, Siubham Harrison and Ryan Sampson, and is directed by Tamara Harvey, designed by Soutra Gilmour and choreographed by Javier De Frutos.
Reviewing the musical for Musical Theatre Review, Paul Vale wrote: “Shaping Jones’ novel into a piece of musical theatre was never going to be easy and yet lyricist Tim Rice and composer Stuart Brayson insist that the lure of its multi-faceted storyline is an irresistible challenge and indeed, this is Rice’s first original musical in 13 years. Adult, informative and occasionally surprising, the sad fact is that From Here to Eternity, currently running at three hours, is remarkably un-engaging.”
There are rumours that the Chichester Festival revival of The Pajama Game will follow From Here to Eternity at the Shaftesbury Theatre, opening in May, according to today’s Daily Mail.
