Full casting has been unveiled for the first UK tour of the multi award-winning Broadway and West End musical Once.
Launching following a festive run at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls (19 December 2019 to 11 January 2020), the production which received its regional premiere at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich in 2018 will hit the road from 13 January 2020.
As previously announced singer-songwriter Daniel Healy (Once, West End) and Emma Lucia (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, UK tour) will reprise their performances in the central roles of Guy and Girl.
Co-produced by the New Wolsey and the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and directed by the New Wolsey’s artistic director Peter Rowe, Healy and Lucia will be joined by Dan Bottomley as Billy, Matthew Burns as Eamon, Ellen Chivers as Reza, Rosalind Ford as Ex-Girlfriend, Lloyd Gorman as Svejc, David Heywood as Emcee, Samuel Martin as Bank Manager, Peter Peverley as Da, Susannah Van Den Berg as Baruska and James William-Pattison as Andrej. The cast also includes Emma Fraser, Seán Keany, Hanna Khogali and Conor McFarlane.
The creative team for the production includes designer Libby Watson, musical director Ben Goddard, choreographer Francesca Jaynes, sound designer James Cook and lighting designer Mark Dymock. Projection design is by Peter Hazelwood, with orchestrations by Martin Loew and casting by Debbie O’Brien.
Following Croydon, the tour will visit Southend, Liverpool, York, Woking, Milton Keynes, Ipswich, Bath, Coventry, Stoke, Malvern, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Oxford, Brighton, Sheffield, Cardiff, Southampton, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Canterbury, Leicester, Salford, Newcastle, Plymouth and Glasgow.
Based on the cult favourite 2007 film which was written and directed by John Carney, the musical version of Once also features music and lyrics by original writers Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová including the Oscar-winning song ‘Falling Slowly’. With a book by Edna Walsh, Once premiered on Broadway in 2012 with a production which received 11 Tony Award nominations, winning eight including Best Musical. The original production concept is by John Tiffany.
