With the 2020 International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis, the festival organisers have launched a new streaming service offering access to recordings of performances of the enduringly popular work of librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan.
Performances from the festival’s resident professional company, the National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company along with other productions of G&S classics are now available.
The service will also feature weekly podcasts and webinars featuring festival favourites and Gilbert and Sullivan experts. The festival team is also in the process of selecting films for a virtual festival in August to fill the void left by the cancellation of this year’s live event.
Fans who sign in to www.gsopera.tv before 14 May 2020 will be offered a 10% discount.
Established in 1994, the 27th International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival performances at the Harrogate Royal Hall will now take place from 8 August until 22 August 2021. The eagerly anticipated week of performances in the festival’s original home, the Buxton Opera House will now take place from 31 July until 7 August 2021.
