Hannah Waddingham is the new Olivier Awards host

Emmy Award-winner and triple Olivier nominee Hannah Waddingham will take over from Jason Manford as host of the Olivier Awards 2023 with Mastercard.

Waddingham (Spamalot, West End/Broadway, Kiss Me, Kate, The Old Vic), a Primetime Emmy Award-winner for her performance in the TV series Ted Lasso and a musical theatre veteran, will host this year’s star-packed ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on 2 April.

Announcing the change of host, the Oliviers paid tribute to Manford who has hosted the biggest night in British theatre for the last five years, and ‘looked forward to working with him again in the future’.

The organisers also confirmed the continuation of the Oliviers’ partnership with Mastercard for the thirteenth year and Mastercard will once again sponsor the Best New Musical Award.

Commenting on this year’s awards, the co-CEOs of the Society of London Theatre, Claire Walker and Hannah Essex, said: “The Olivier Awards are the highlight of the theatrical calendar – a time for the industry to come together with fans to celebrate the extraordinary talent both on our stages and behind the curtain. Already, in our first few months of this job, it is clear that we have joined a uniquely innovative, diverse and resilient sector. To be able to recognise these qualities on the stage of the Royal Albert Hall will be a real thrill. We are also hugely thankful for Mastercard’s continued support.”
